Any photo becomes a lithophane that prints standing on the Bambu Lab P2S. Cleaned up, upscaled, lit true to the picture, and sized to drop into the Tala ornament, the Luminary lantern, or a tea-light lantern.

2Clean updenoise, detail, tone

Auto clean: edge-preserving denoise, auto levels, local detail lift, a touch of sharpening after upscaling, and a gentle brightening toward the middle. Lithophanes love clean midtones; noise turns into bumps.

Tala Signature — the timeless preset

  • Picture fades softly into shadow at the edge, like a cameo, so no crop line ever shows.
  • A 3 mm rim at full thickness with a small chamfer: clean edge, flush back, drop-in for every Tala slot.
  • Caption in Cinzel small caps as glow lettering, with a second line for a date or place.
  • The Tala star in the corner, 3 mm, so every piece carries the maker's mark.
  • Smooth face out: the picture is hidden until the light comes on.
4Build forwhere it will live

Keyed disc: the 12 mm flat at the bottom is the print base and the anti-rotation key. The host's 1.5 mm ledge hides it. The gold band in the crop shows what the ledge covers.

Use the Luminary's panel size. The lithophane is 3.0 mm at the rim, exactly like 3 mm basswood, so it slides into the same slot.

The visible window. A 1.5 mm glue flange is added all around; the plate glues to the inside of the lantern's 2 mm front wall.

Light inside

The photo wraps the full circumference with the seam at the back. Panoramas and three-photo strips work beautifully. The Bambu mini LED (KC020) pod is 36 × 22 mm; 44 mm inside clears it with room to lift the shade off.

Tala Litho Insert Standard v1 — rim 3.0 mm (= 3 mm basswood), image 0.8–3.0 mm, rim width 2.0 mm, pocket clearance 0.15 mm/side, host ledge 1.5 mm, disc key flat 12 mm. One lithophane fits the ornament, the Luminary and the tea-light lantern because they all speak this standard.
5PrintP2S settings

Thickness follows the light, not the gray value: each tone maps to the wall that transmits that much light through white PLA (Beer–Lambert), so midtones print true instead of muddy. Change the filament preset if your white is more or less translucent.
